Interesting Lawsuits

In the last two days I have seen two lawsuits that I have found interesting.  The first is ridiculous the second great.

The first involved a woman who is suing a local supermarket chain because the produce she had purchased included a bonus prize.  A spider.  Unfortunately for her the spider bit her.  The result is that she has had considerable discomfort, pain, etc for sometime.  I don't deny that her case is unfortunate.  But how can the supermarket chain possibly be held accountable for the spider biting her and it being there in the first place!!  Produce comes from all over the world and routinely there are various creepy crawlies in them whether they be the tiny green spiders on lettuce, bigger beetles in spinach, worms in fruits and bigger spiders.  What is the supermarket chain supposed to do?  Spray all the produce with insecticides?  Clean all produce?  Which for lettuce would mean tearing the head apart.  Man......what an amazing case.  I hope the judge throws it out.

The second is the case of lawyer suing Delta Airlines for his ruined vacation.  He is suing for $1 million!  He spent something like three days stuck in airports, was treated rudely by airline employees, had to spend money to book on another airline, lost hotel reservations.  There luggage took five days or so to join them.  Amazing.  The article did not get into the details on the causes.  It could have been weather (no control there).  It could have been mechanical failure.  Or airline overbooking.  Or...  I like this one though.  Why?  I think the airlines generally do a terrible job on customer service.  I don't fly often (twice a year) but I typically run into one pissed off employee.  To boot, to have the pleasure of experiencing this service I get nickel and dimed to death.  An extra few bucks to check luggage.  A few more for a sandwich.  A few more if I want to talk to a reservations agent.  More still to book my seat more than a day ahead of the flight.  Listen up airlines....just charge me an extra $70 and include all the services I used to get.  Include it in the price.  Make it part of the service.  Instead you are cheapening your product, your service.  You are annoying us (well me anyway).  I hope Delta has to pay the million.  For once have them pay for our crap service.
