Lousy Air Canada

Beware, a rant follows.

My mother-in-law was supposed to arrive from Montreal on Air Canada flight 183, arriving at 16:49 on December 25th, here in Vancouver. When she awoke that morning she checked to see whether her flight was still scheduled for an on-time departure. Nope. It had been cancelled. She called Air Canada and was put on hold for an hour to be told that all flights starting with a one (ie. 1xx) had been cancelled. Interesting. Flight AC 111 arrived from Montreal at 10:41am on time (well, two minutes late).

Air Canada's website stated that delays and cancellations were expected in Vancouver due to "winter conditions". If you consider partly cloudy, melting snow and a temperature of 1 degree Celsius winter conditions there is something wrong with you and you certainly cannot claim to be the Great White North's national airline. I checked the website of Vancouver International. Only three Air Canada flights were cancelled the 25th (one from Victoria, one from Calgary and my mother-in-law's). Interestingly a Westjet flight from Montreal was scheduled to arrive on time at 18:00 or so. I also saw many 1xx flights from Toronto arriving all day, with a few minutes of delays only. And to boot all three runways were open open. So no excuses AC.

AC.....don't BS us OK?

Give us the truth. By hiding the facts you are annoying us even more and acting like a child. Did you need my mother in-law's plane for another route that has stranded customers? Was the flight a little underbooked? Were you understaffed? Why is is that Westjet had no difficulties that day? Why is it that on December 31st there were still six hundred bags from your flights sitting at Vancouver's airport waiting to be claimed? Why is it that the Consumers Association of Canada received zero complaints about Westjet and two hundred-eleven about your hideous service? If Westjet had no significant weather delays why did you - no snow tires? ;-). Do you not have the decency to call your passengers to let them know you have cancelled their flights?

You continue to excel at one thing - incompetence.

If only we had more choice in this government controlled, Air Canada-led, regulated market maybe this lousy airline would finally go bankrupt. Unfortunately the government might bail it out - like those three lousy American car manufacturers with plants in Ontario.

Let me know what you think about what you have just read. Please and thanks!
