Dangerous Calls?

Those neutral, peaceful, boring, cow-herding, chocolate-loving, clock-making Swiss have annoyed the majority of the world. Of course, you could argue that the Swiss are free to do whatever the heck they want within their country....fair enough. But I disagree....not in this interconnected, global world. If you go back to the days of nation states and empires, where heinous behaviour was deemed a part of the world we lived in, maybe...but not today.

Minarets, in the minds of those chocolate eating bankers, are sure signs of the radical Islam and the dangers that go along with it. Those towers, which rise above mosques, are meant to show followers where the mosques are and used for the calls to prayer. Hmmm.....this vaguely sounds familiar. Catholic churches generally were the tallest building in the cities they were built in so that followers could easily identify the building and so that those bells could ring and be heard...to announce a call to prayer! Nothing evil about that. We know that those Catholics and Christians have always had our best intentions at the forefront of their doctrines don't we?

The decision by the Swiss is a shame. The Arab countries, their governments, kings, queens, sheiks, oil barons and other mill and billionaires should think twice about depositing their money in the coffers of the cow herders. The Swiss economy depends to a certain (maybe a significant) amount on those very same people that they have managed to offend with their short-sighted and emotion driven decision.

The root cause of all of this is a lack of education and big picture thinking by the general population married with a power-hungry minority looking for votes. In this case the Swiss People's Party managed to, with eloquent and simple words and thoughts, scare enough of the masses into voting for this ban. This happens too often. I just wish people would think before they vote. That they would interest themselves in the world, really believe in freedom of expression and have enough confidence in their own beliefs to not be so easily rallied into banning, intimidating or restricting the rights of groups that may not share their beliefs.

The population of the world needs to grow up.

Let me know what you think about what you have just read. Please and thanks!
