More dumb signage (and rules)

Yet another comment on how stupid humans can become when they:
1) Work in groups.
2) Try to clarify items via signs.
3) Try to please everyone.

In this case it is the GVRD - Greater Vancouver Regional District (now called Metro Vancouver).  They manage a large, forested park in our neighbourhood.  The issue is dogs and whether or not they must be leashed.  The solution to please all parties and to "clarify" the issue is the sign which is pictured here.

OK...stop.  Read it.  Read it again.  Think.  There are so many variables.
1) Whether or not a dog can even be on the trail
2) If the dog can be, whether or not it must be leashed
3) The day of the week
4) Whether or not it is a holiday.
5) The direction you are walking in.

So.  Leashing is always optional if you walk to the right.  To the left, the dogs must always be on leash during weekdays.  On weekends and holidays dogs are not allowed, leashed or not.  So, make sure that if you are walking your dog and coming from the right, on a weekday, that you stop and leash your dog.  If it is a holiday, FULL STOP.  Turn around.

To me these signs are frustrating.  If you are the type of person that obeys rules then you would get annoyed with anyone who disobeys these rules, whether knowingly, or more likely, unknowingly.

Message to Metro Vancouver:  keep it simple.  Don't try to please everyone.  Just have the guts to make a rule.  Yes you will annoy some.  Sobeit.

My preference would be to make leashing mandatory.  It is a public park.  People can do whatever the heck they want with their dogs on their property.  No dog owner can tell me that they are in 100% control of their animals.  Just like I am not in 100% of my children - animals that I can communicate with in my own language and who are my flesh and blood.

I don't mind dogs.  But I have gone running in that forest and been chased by dogs that are unleashed.  Dogs have run up to my children and scared them.  Some owners are apologetic (but it is too late...the event has happened).  Others think we are from some other planet when we get upset by their running, jumping, excited pests.  OK....I digress...should be another post.  This one was meant to be about signage.
